There's a Map for That: Property details available with just the click of a mouse
When it comes to searching out details on your property, you might be surprised at what you can find with just the click of a mouse.
Ashland Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will be hosting a Conservation Chat: There’s a Map for That this November to help Ashland area landowners learn more about how to access soil and water details about their property from the comfort of their keyboard.
The event will take place on November 13 at in the Kettering 229 computer lab at Ashland University. This free event will give participants an opportunity to learn about and try their hand at using a variety of online mapping resources to learn more about their properties to help make good land use decisions.
“So many resources and tools are available for the public to use and access to find out information specific to their properties that just weren’t available 20 or even 10 year ago,” said Jane Houin, Ashland SWCD director. “Our staff are excited to be able to share these tools with Ashland area residents, and hosting the event in on of AU’s computer labs is going to give everyone a change to really use those resources and get familiar with them by the time they leave the chat.”
Attendees will learn more about the information layers available on specific properties through the Ashland County Auditor’s GIS website including locating floodplains and elevations, details of soil conditions and appropriate uses through the Web Soil Survey, and even how to calculate their watershed or area of water that drains to a specific point on a creek, stream or river to help understand more about the water flow on their property.
This event is free to the public but does require pre-registration, and space is limited to ensure each participant will have computer access during the event.. Reservations can be made in person at the Ashland SWCD office at 110 Cottage Street in Ashland or online at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/conservation-chat-a-map-for-that-tickets-651034310147
