Approved producers will receive a $12/acre cost share. Applications are ranked based on criteria such as location behind an MWCD lake or dam, slope, past participation in the program and primary crop. Locally, the Ashland SWCD supervisors chose to award additional points to producers who use aerial, broadcast, or no-till planting and who plant an overwintering cover crop. There is a 200 acre cap for cost-share participation, with the exception being any acres in the watershed of Pleasant Hill or Charles Mills are automatically approved with no cap. Ready to take your cover crops to the next level? Check out or equipment rental program. Thanks to the support of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District, we are excited to offer rental options for a cover crop crimper/roller for termination as well as a cover crop interseeder! Designed to plant cover crops into your standing cash crop (around 6 weeks after cash crop planting), our interseeder rents for just $5/acre for producers within the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District’s boundaries and $10/acre for those outside of MWCD’s jurisdictional counties. Interseeding prevents the rush to seed cover crops in the fall and maintains a living crop to help eliminate the risk of erosion. From July 15-December 31, Ashland SWCD is pleased to offer a reduced $16/acre rental rate for our no-till drills to encourage the planting of cover crops. For more information, contact Drill Sergeant Katie Eikleberry at 419-281-7645.
