Ashland SWCD Seeking Volunteers

Ashland Soil and Water Conservation District is recruiting citizens of Ashland County as volunteers.

Ashland SWCD owns Hazel Willis Woods, a 40 acre woodlot, in Mifflin Township.  The woods was given to the District by Walter Willis in memory of his wife, Hazel.  We need volunteers to help maintain the trails, loop road, spring, water bars and main driveway.

Throughout the year, we conduct informational meetings promoting conservation in Ashland County.  We send out many flyers and newsletters.  We also need volunteers to fold, tape, and label these mailings.

In the spring, we sell tree seedlings and transplants. The trees we purchase from a Michigan nursery are in bulk.  We need volunteers to help dip the roots, bag the trees and label the species for the sale.

The Ashland SWCD has started a program of reporting rainfall to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, Snow Network.  If you are interested in becoming a rainfall monitor, stop in our office at 1763 State Route 60S and purchase an official rain gauge for $32.25.  We will help you learn how to report rainfall and snowfall to CoRoRaHs.

Contact the Ashland SWCD office at 419-281-7645 if you are interested in volunteering.
